We
Love To Give!
And
we’d love to give more. But as a small business
in a tough recession, insurance, and taxes eat
up plenty. We honestly give as much as we can
without closing our doors.
But
the very hardest thing about wanting to give to
the many many fabulous causes is that we have to
make choices and sometimes say no. We are
probably asked to donate 5 baskets a week to
charitable causes.
Our Giving Plan.
In
2010 Healing Baskets will give over 15% of
profits back to helping make the world a better
place. We decided on a three prong philosophy.
~Do
something Local
~Do
something National
~Do
something Global
Locally we support a cause close to my heart,
the hospice movement. Nationally we support The
Guy Forbeck Foundation to find a cure for
Neuroblastoma early childhood cancer as well as
‘Art With Heart’ supporting child and adolescent
mental health disorders. Globally we plan to buy
a well with Charity Water a non profit
organization bringing clean, safe drinking water
to people in developing nations.
We
are small but we believe that however small our
contribution seems to the big picture, we can
make a difference
Healing Baskets Supports Art With Heart -
Helping children In Crisis.
According to the National Institute of Mental Health, studies show that at least one in five children and adolescents have a mental health disorder. At least one in 10, or about 6 million people, have a serious emotional disturbance, severe enough to cause some level of impairment.

Creativity is often overlooked as a positive
behavioral intervention tool that promotes
healing and trauma resolution. Self-expression
can spur personal insight as well as
self-motivated behavioral changes; it also helps
youth gain the skills necessary for coping with
stress and other challenges. Art with Heart
encourages resiliency using the concepts of art
therapy to lead toward greater self-confidence
and emotional clarity.
Art with Heart has had the privilege of helping over 41,000 young people through the healing power of creativity. Their work supports schools, hospitals and other nonprofit organizations who are dealing with fragile populations of kids at times of extreme crisis, such as after a diagnosis of cancer, a natural disaster, or the tragedy of a school shooting.

Hospice of the North Shore and Greater Boston

Hospice of the North Shore and Greater Boston was the first hospice facility licensed for inpatient care in the state of Massachusetts, and the only hospice house on the North Shore. The Kaplan Family Hospice House focuses on short-term care with an emphasis on patients needing the inpatient level of hospice support. The Kaplan House is not a hospital, a nursing home, an assisted living community or a rehabilitation facility, but a comfortable home-like setting where seasoned hospice nurses and support staff provide 24-hour care to patients and where visiting family members and friends can spend quality time with their loved one. With 12 private patient suites each with a spacious patio and comfortable accommodations for families, patients have round-the-clock nursing care including social workers, chaplains, home health aides and volunteers. Visitors of all ages welcome 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Three levels of hospice care available - general inpatient, respite and routine.

Healing Baskets
are proud to have purchased a Reiki Table,
donated books, 10 special bed jackets, endless
raffle gifts and baskets and 100 embroidered
bears for their children’s Summer Camp Stepping
Stones. I am personally proud to volunteer every
Tuesday morning in Kaplan House.
William Guy Forbeck Research Foundation
In Memory of our friend, Lindsay Noble Buchanan,
who died aged 10 of Neuroblastoma, Healing
Baskets annually donates to The William Guy
Forbeck Research Foundation.
I had always wondered Do Doctors and researchers
worldwide share information to prevent
duplication of efforts? Or do they protect their
research in the hope of being the first facility
or lab to find the cure?
That is exactly what this foundation does. Their
mission is to promote advances in the field of
oncology, particularly pediatric oncology, by
shortening the cancer research timetable. Each
year the foundation invites up to fourteen world
renowned physicians and scientists who meet in a
private "think tank" environment where they
exchange ideas freely in the hope of building on
each others knowledge and experience. Many
exchanges of ideas, manuscripts, reagents or
methods, and collaborations with other
participants have resulted from these meetings.
Healing Baskets believes that by sharing and
learning from each other we WILL find the cure

Charity: Water
Healing Baskets : Global Giving
Right now, 1.1 billion people on the planet dont
have access to safe, clean drinking water. Thats
one in six of us. Unsafe water and lack of basic
sanitation cause 80% of all sickness and
disease, and kill more people every year than
all forms of violence, including war. Many
people in the developing world, usually women
and children, walk more than three hours every
day to fetch water that is likely to make them
sick. Those hours are crucial, preventing many
from working or attending school. Additionally,
collecting water puts them at greater risk of
sexual harassment and assault. Children are
especially vulnerable to the consequences of
unsafe water. Of the 42,000 deaths that occur
every week from unsafe water and a lack of basic
sanitation, 90% are children under 5 years old.
Charitywater is a non profit organization
bringing clean, safe drinking water to people in
developing nations. They give 100% of the money
raised to direct project costs, funding
sustainable clean water solutions in areas of
greatest need.
Our goal at Healing Baskets is that by the end
of 2012 we will have donated enough to build a
freshwater well in a village and provide 250+
people with clean drinking water.
